Obama is about to give two US solar energy companies nearly $2 billion in loan guarantees, when will this Coalition government do the same or similar. In April this year, before the election, Nick Cleg said that  ’creating jobs by making Britain greener’ was one of the party’s four key campaign themes. The Lib Dem manifesto promised a green stimulus plan that would create 100,000 jobs, among other things. There has been no talk of this at all by the Coalition so far, will it be forgotten?

For once there is some good news!

Pontin’s holiday camp are redeveloping their holiday centres creating 2,000 jobs. US sandwich chain Subway is creating 7,000 jobs in the UK  by the end of 2010 as it plans to open another 600 stores. Asda is creating 7,000 jobs across the UK this year. BSkyB the Satellite broadcaster are to create 1,000 positions. Supermarket chain Tesco plans to create up to 10,000 new jobs with new store openings this year. Sainsbury’s are going to create 5,000 new jobs this year, in 50 new convenience stores and a few new supermarkets. Waitrose is to create 4,000 new jobs as part of an expansion drive and Iceland are to create 2,500 jobs after buying 51 Woolworths stores!
