I feel rather sad after the vote on AV. There was a chance to make this country more democratic but it got muddled up with Nick Cleggs current popularity. Also I am convinced that Cameron knew what he was doing in promoting the NO campaign the way he did, extremely underhanded and possibly illegal. I think that now the trust is broken with the coalition that the Lib Dems should leave and maybe let Cameron carry on with a minority and see how he likes things then. I have voted Lib Dem in many elections but this was the last, I am now going to vote Labour because under “first past the post” Lib Dems will have no chance at all (even though they sometimes get a third of the vote). Lib Dems main policy is/was voting reform, proportional representation, but I fear we will not see this in my lifetime, it was my main reason to vote Lib Dem. Apparently there is going to be a 49 per cent rise in the world’s energy consumption from now until 2035. So can this new demand for energy be met without relying on nuclear power? But when the disaster in Japan caused a nuclear emergency it made everyone think back to the 1986 Chernobyl disaster - it was taken for granted that nuclear power would be more important around the world. What a shame that it takes a disaster like this to make those with the power to rethink their strategies. Posted in Finance | 3 Comments » Are My Savings Safe?31/12/2010 by TonyM.
If you loose your job no! You must use up most of your savings, in fact you can have only £6,000, in order to claim benefits. So there is yet another drawback to being unemployed. You can have no or very little savings, while people with jobs have just been awarded a compensation limit who lose money if their bank or building society goes bust, has just increased from £50,000 to £85,000. Compensation will be paid by the FSA and they said that the new limit would cover the “vast majority” of savers in the UK. Those with money get and retain money while those without get poorer. I hate this unfair world, I’m just waiting for Armageddon when things might even themselves out! Posted in Finance | 5 Comments » David Miliband Won’t Come Out To Play03/10/2010 by TonyM.
I just wondered why no one has said it but David Miliband has been so childish and such a bad looser in the fight for the Labour leadership. I hope he has nothing more to do with politics with that kind of attitude. With brothers there is always one that rules the roost, I think we know which one that was. Ed Miliband only won by 1% which was such a shock to David, you could see it on his face. David has probably never lost anything before to Ed, and I bet he didn’t even let Ed use his trainset when they were younger. I shall be voting Labour in the next election, thank you Ed for helping to bring much needed change the Labour party. Posted in Politics | 2 Comments » No Pain, Lots of Gain06/08/2010 by TonyM.
With the recent announcements by the Royal Bank of Scotland and other big banks that they have all made major profits, its obvious to me that they have had no pain and lots of gain. How can we make things fair in this current economic climate, so that this so called pain is more evenly spread. Posted in Finance | 1 Comment » | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
