Hi, here we are again, in a sleazy turmoil. Of course I mean the recent hacking scandal. After sleazy banks and sleazy MP’s, we now have a treble dose of sleaze - sleazy press, sleazy police and, once again, sleazy MP’s. Also to top it off we now have yet another sleazy Prime Minister. In any business there is a need to stay ahead of the competition and you can do this legally and fairly, or illegally and by cheating. Phone hacking has given certain newspapers the edge regarding their competition. That competition also includes online news companies. Falling sales of high street newspapers signifies that there is a war going on in the news print industry. The saying that “anything’s fair in love and war” seems to have been taken to heart. I really wish people would stop buying papers like the News of the World, but this society of Hero Worship needs to be fed. A couple of years ago some primary school children were asked what was the biggest thing that worried them about their parents. The children unanimously said that their parents preoccupation with celebrity status. There have always been people in the past that have shined for all sorts of reasons and they rightly go down in history and are much talked about for doing amazing things, right or wrong. But the stars of today seem to be shallow and squalid and overpaid and they seem to be everywhere. On every TV channel, levering their way into every form of media they can. We have a wonderful country, a green and pleasant land, but certain greedy people are screwing with it all. Posted in Politics | 2 Comments » Does it mean Audio Visual?11/05/2011 by TonyM.
I feel rather sad after the vote on AV. There was a chance to make this country more democratic but it got muddled up with Nick Cleggs current popularity. Also I am convinced that Cameron knew what he was doing in promoting the NO campaign the way he did, extremely underhanded and possibly illegal. I think that now the trust is broken with the coalition that the Lib Dems should leave and maybe let Cameron carry on with a minority and see how he likes things then. I have voted Lib Dem in many elections but this was the last, I am now going to vote Labour because under “first past the post” Lib Dems will have no chance at all (even though they sometimes get a third of the vote). Lib Dems main policy is/was voting reform, proportional representation, but I fear we will not see this in my lifetime, it was my main reason to vote Lib Dem. What an amazing spectacle the royal wedding was, we really do know how to do pageantry. People from all over the world could see our heritage and our ceremony and it has made me proud to be British. What a shame that it was marred by one petty thing, that of the snub of our two latest Prime Ministers, what sort of message does that send to the world as a whole. There were three reasons given for Tony Blaire’s non-invite. The first that he had written about William unfavourably in his book, which I have read and he only just slightly mentions anger over his mothers death, I think that I would feel the same in those circumstances. The other was over the Iraq war, and the Blair government were voted in for a third term after all of that, so they definitely had the mandate for that from the majority of the country. As for the third claim, about only those that hold the Royal Garter, that was just utter crap. Probably the real reason was that Blair personally told the royals that they were unpopular over Diana’s death and that they had to acknowledge her by at least cutting short their holiday in Scotland. As far as I am concerned Tony Blair will go down in history as one of our greatest Prime Ministers, so I feel that the non-invite to the wedding was extremely shortsighted and actually made our country look rather stupid. Creating a “No Fly Zone”. Am I the only person who does not understand this term, or how it has been applied in Libya. Creating a “No Fly Zone” I thought should mean that certain planes are not allowed to fly in Libya. But once again the UK government are bending the agreed rules and this means that they can take out ground troops as and when they feel like it. This war is also not a Regime change, or is it? The more things go on the more this is getting like Iraq, bend those rules, get what you want, as collateral damage mounts. This coalition government is going to be as unpopular as Blaire’s government was over Iraq. We cannot afford to be the world’s policeman and are we now going into Syria and possibly other countries? It would be nice to cure every little piece of unfairness in this world but it is totally impractical. Posted in Politics | 4 Comments » Living on a Different Planet?05/02/2011 by Fin.
I have been unemployed for the past few years. I was in printing as a typesetter and then retrained as a web designer/administrator. I have been to college doing all kinds of things. I have found no vacancies for this area and have been applying for all kinds of jobs, without success. The last few weeks there has been nothing to apply for most jobs say “for internal applicants only”. My fear is that with about half a million public workers about to join the unemployed how am I ever ever going to get any work. The longer I am unemployed the more disadvantaged I become. It’s things like clothes and fuel I can’t afford. My only outing is to my jobcentre to sign on every two weeks and the people there always make me feel so inadequate, I find them so sarcastic at times. I have had four interviews this year out of hundreds of applications, still not enough to satisfy the jobcentre. Things were relatively ok for the first year but a person can only take so many knock-backs. I’ve picked myself up so many times over these years. And when the news talks about necessary things going up in price and they include air travel, and what with rich people not able to make ends meet, I feel as though I’m actually living on a different planet.
